The Salmon’s Plight
I walked along the river’s edge
where salmon run crimson red.
I worked my way through prickly hedge
to find many lay there dead.
The river runs a lot swifter now
taking water to the sea.
Here strong currents, the fish they fight
there’s no stopping them you see.
And when they reach their birthplace
the end of their journey you know,
Females lay eggs for a continued race
with the males now close in tow.
They’ve served their purpose, their deed is done
and next year more return the same
To reach their home, oh yes, they’ve won,
to bare their young in this waiting game.
